at the Expo Universelle 1878 there was no Eiffel Tower	and the Statue of Liberty was still in Paris

1879 is created the ministry of the Postes et Telegraphes,
the first minister is Adolphe Cochery.
The same year is formed the Société Générale des Téléphones.

The ministry also controls the postal services which have been
created 2 centuries before, in 1671
rue des Bourdonnais / rue des Dechargeurs Paris 1er
by the french families Pajot and Rouille.

In 1881 Paris has a network of 1602 phonelines

1886 is inaugurated the phoneline from Paris to Brussels

July 16 1889 a law is passed to nationalize Telephone services.
All Telephone activites come under the control of the Ministery des Postes et Telegraphes, later PTT ( Postes, Telephone et Telegraphes)

The Eiffel Tower also a Telecom equipment	Eiffel Tower under construction in 1888

The Eiffel Tower is constructed from 1887 to 1889
as a temporary building for the Expo Universelle in 1889.
It is initailly planned to dismantel the Tower in 1909,
but it also has it´s use as a Telecommunication equipment,
serving as an antenna for radio transmission.
Gustave Eiffel fights for the conservation of his tower
which is today the icon of France.

1890 France has 10.000 télphone subscribers
1891 a submarine cable is installed under the Channel (la Manche)
connecting Paris and London

Les Demoiselles du Téléphone (Operators) could be reached
by dialing 11 - they were manually connecting phonecalls.
Impossible to dial a number directly.
